Swimming in April-my first ever question here

I am considering visiting in April with my 11y old son for a beach trip. I have known Koh Samui for its surf beaches, which really are not for me. I was wondering whether anyone could recommend nice beaches with calm, boring swimming pool-like water? I exaggerate clearly, but I couldnt see anything that talked about such beaches. If they come with good snorkeling all the better.

I presume by April the winter weather has passed?

thanks a lot

By April the NE monsoon should be just about over and the sea around Samui should be quite friendly and calm. This was the case in late March earlier this year when I was in Chaweng, although earlier in that month the sea was quite rough for a few days. The temperature of the sea was amazingly warm - not at all refreshing.

Wasn't April 16th hottest day of the year 2016?

The beaches are only surfing beaches until around mid March, then they get calm. By April it will be nice swimming sea - unless there is a storm front around. Chaweng is normally very calm, and great for swimming in April - and with 5km of beach there are hotels to suit most people.

Samui doesn't have winter, just drier and hot or wetter and hot.

You won't find much in the way of snorkelling off the beaches - you find a bit at Crystal Bay / Silver Beach - but otherwise you have to head to Ang Thong National park.
