Price of a day trip on average

Hi

May I know on average how much does a day trip to tribe village, elephant camp, tiger kingdom etc would cost? I have book an accommodation with a guest house where they can arrange for such trips too, but the feedback from the forumers whom book the trip from this guest house commented that they paying twice as much than others from other guest houses.

Can we actually compare price from other agencies or b instead of booking from the guest house am staying at?

When you get to Chiang Mai, just take a walk and look at a few travel agencies to see what they offer. Prices can indeed vary. But the quality of the tour can also vary. I once paid a budget price for an elephant tour and although it was overall a good day trip, the elephant farm was one where the mahouts visibly didn't care much for the animals, they were just a money making object to be exploited. No smiles on their face, no love for the animal. From memory it was called Chok Chai Tour.

Anyway expect to pay between THB650 - 1500 for a day trip on average, depending on how many activities it includes etc. and whether lunch and entrance fees are included, for example.

Plenty of travel agencies on Loi Kroh Road and around the night market and Thapae Gate areas to enable you to make a choice.

How does one work out which is a reputable agency that offers quality tours, as opposed to not so great ones? Any pointers, robol, that you can share?

Thanks for your help! :)

It's hard to give an answer to this because it depends on which elephant camp you go to - they all cost different amounts and vary greatly depending on what you do and the type of camp.

The cost of the tigers also varies depending on the age of the tigers you are photographed with.

Have a look at the web pages for a few of the elephant camps (see FAQ top right) - and look at the web page for the Tiger Kingdom. You will then have an idea of admission costs and that will help you decide if you are getting a good deal or not.

Maybe email a couple of the local recommended guides (also listed in the FAQ) for a quote - which will also help you compare and know how much you should be paying.

Caroline.
