BTS Skytrain and MRT at Bangkok

I have the maps, timetables, I know the prices and the routes to take to my destination. What I need to know is how to pay for my journey. Say I arrive at Suvarnabuhumi airport to take the BTS Skytrain then MRT, I have Baht notes and I have credit cards. Is it possible to pay for my journey without coins? Or will I definitely need to use coins to buy my ticket(s)/token/pass for the single journey on each mode of transport?

Advice appreciated please.

You can uses note at the Airport for the Train which is where you arrive. When you change to the BTS, I think there is one tickets machine that takes notes now.

However there is no problem in getting change at the station.

Forget the credit card !!!

Good Luck

You are missing the first leg of your journey. The ARL (Airport Rail Link), down the travelator below the airport. You pay a human with cash and they give you a poker chip style token. You put it in the turnstile and on you go. You mention MRT, so I am assuming you are going to Makkasan? Or Phaya Thai to link with the BTS? BTS you pay with coins into a machine to get a ticket for the turnstile. You get change from a human. Where are you going Blossom? I don't think you have the correct route.

In BTS, you will need to use coins.

In MRT, you can use notes and coins.

You can't use credit card in either BTS or MRT.

You can easily change coins in every BTS station and like what #2 says, you will need to take the ARL from Swampy airport.

From the airport, I want to travel by train(s), so I'm heading from Subarnabhumi via Makassan to Lumphini MRT. Once at LumphiniMRT I know where to go.

Then you don't need to go on the BTS.

Ok, thank you. So what would you advise ? I will have luggage that I would prefer to,roll along rather than lift. Prefer escalators/escalators rather than stairs.

You won't use the BTS. The train from Suvarnabhumi Airport is the ARL (Airport Rail Link). You'll buy the ARL ticket at the airport, travel to Makassan, walk to Phetchaburi station and buy a ticket for the MRT. Of course the tickets aren't paper but smart tokens.

Thank you. About how long would that journey take mid afternoon during the week days?

So far that seems right; you could take those steps for travel. I would assume there are escalators at those stations (out of the airport link, into the MRT) but there might not be; there isn't everywhere. The timing isn't wrong but since you will wait on the first train and take time to transit it will take longer than a half hour; how much depends on the luck of the airport link timing, which should run about every half hour.

The cost would be around 100 baht for the airport link (I forget the exact price based on when I last took it), and the MRT is around 25 to 40, depending on distance. A taxi from the airport should cost around 250 to 300, with the surcharge included, so you save money, and probably a little bit of time too, but most people aren't interested in saving 100 baht and 15 minutes to do the extra work. I'd take the two trains but that's me. For other transportation information this site compiles a lot:
