Bang Khu Wiang floating market

Does anyone know any latest news about Bang Khu Wiang floating market?

Some say it is only weekend, some say it is open 7 days.

Some are even saying there is some repair work going on.

Did anyone go there in Dec 2014?

Thanks,

No one knows!

All the information, in English, is pretty much the same, almost word for word. There is other information, in Thai, that adds to it.

We've scoured the web, in Thai and English, and find very little recent information to add.

It seems that it might be less of a "market", and more of an area where monks pass private residences and receive alms.. There doesn't seem to be any public docks or piers in the area. Maybe the "repair work" is building something to turn it into one more overrun tourist trap.

I live about 20 minutes away from Wat Takien, the place from where you where told to hire a boat on LP. However, I doubt I will be inclined to get up at 5am and head over, before Christmas.

You might head over to Wat Takien and hire a boat to the area. After the visit, return to the temple, explore the grounds, and have some wonderful 15 baht noodle soup!

Response from my guide

Bangku wieng floating market and wat ta kien floating market have location in Nontaburi province (famouse about orchards) past time open everyday , but now open only sat-sun and holidays six am till two pm for bangku wieng and eight am till two pm for wat ta kien. Because in 2011, In Bangkok and Nontaburi province had flooding, it mad local people’s orchards have been damaged by the floods. And on mon-fri have people less than sat-sun, So they change to sat-sun and holidays only. And Bangku wieng floating market, from pier near wat arun you can take public boat to Nontaburi pier about one hour and move to private longtail boat about fifteen minute. Wat ta kien floating market, you can take only private car about one till one thirty hours

Do you like to see floating market or like to test Thai food, fruit and like to see local market?

I have one local market nearby Nontaburi Province suggest you. Nontaburi pier market is very famous for tourist from Europe and America, because this market easy for travel, tourist can take public boat to Nontaburi pier(public boat’s center)when reach to Nontaburi pier, tourist can see market along street. Everyone an see market thai style and this market have fresh market for vegetable, fish, meat, ect. And food, fruit market and have many cloth, slippers, bag, ect.

I'm only going to post this once. I see no need to reply to any and all threads related to it.

At this point, my best suggestion is to find a different guide.

The little missus just got off the phone with a monk at Wat Takien.

The monk said that many foreigners come to Wat Takien and ask about Bang Khu Wiang floating market.

Just as I suspected, Bang Khu Wiang “floating market”, isn’t a market at all. In fact, according to the monk, the “market” hasn’t operated for close to 60 years.

What does happen is that monks will paddle the klongs and receive alms at different people’s homes. The junction of Klong Bang Khu Wiang and Klong Om Non is a convenient spot for tour boats to possibly catch some monks in action. But, there is no market. Early morning is when they pass through.

Although weekends are much busier, Wat Takien floating market is still open 7 days. The boat noodle ladies close on Fridays. The boat vendor, selling duck, has been there every time we have visited. Other vendors vary, from day to day, and at different times of day. Again, earlier is better than later.

As far as Nonthaburi Market is concerned, it is a great place to visit to experience a classic “wet” market. However, I truly doubt many would partake of the tasty treats offered. Much of it is too “real” for the average tourist. And, it is not, by any means, a floating market.

Don't speak Polish. But, the best I can tell, your blog speaks of Taling Chan, although there is a mention of finding a description Bang Khu Wiang.
