Transport around Bangkok

Hi guys.

We will be travelling around Bangkok (for 2 days ) , as a family of 4. Would it be worth using the BTS or just cabs.

Thanks again

Bangkok traffic is horrendous, so better to use BTS IMO.

Hi,

I go along with Dodger, use the BTS or MRT:

Wherever possible (except late at night) do not use the roads, the congestion can be unbelievable

Of course the problem is the BTS doesn't go everywhere. So how you travel depends on your destination. Sometimes the BTS, sometimes the MRT, or the Chao Phraya Express or Saen Saep Canal boat, or maybe even a bus, if you can figure out the system. Or a combination of transport modes. And there are some places where only a taxi makes sense.

Three times to Bangkok and have never used a taxi (except to and from airport or part way) nor a bus. Always use the river boats Chao praya Express (not tourist boats - more expensive) or the BTS , MRT or we walk. Walking, you can take in lots of the sights/ shops etc. Many link together.

Enjoy. L.

Looking at Matti80 map.

If you staying in central Bangkok then you get BTS to Saphan Taksin station. Go down under the bridge to the Central Pier. Then take the Chao Phraya express boat coming from your left, and get off at Ta Chang pier.

Do not buy a ticket at the desk, and do not buy a 150 baht ticket for the tourist boat. Get on the Chao Phraya Express Boat coming from your left. Take a boat with no flag, an orange flag, or a green flag. You pay the fare on board to the ticket seller.

Its Tha Chang" (Pier N9) for Grand Palace & Wat Pho. Then walk to Tha Tein (Pier N8) for cross river ferry to War Arun.
