Floating Market: Bang Khu Wiang or Wat Takien

Hi, I'm planning to go to floating market near Bangkok on a weekday. Right now I'm considering Bang Khu Wiang or Wat Takien. Do you have any tips on how to get there or if the markets are still available? I heard that Bang Khu Wiang is closed.

Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Never been to Bang Khu Wiang. But, searching the web, most of the pictures associated with it where shots of Damnoen Saduak. My guess is that it is a true, local talad nam, definitely geared to the local community, possibly not what most westerners would envision as "floating market".

I have been to Wat Takien, a couple of times. Once again, it is definitely gear to Thais. During the week, it is quite sleepy. There will be a few vendors tied off, selling foods, but not many.

But, it does have some interesting buildings and statuary: …staticflickr.com/5350/7437932302_5daf158a7e…

A taxi would be your best bet, although you might find it hard to get one who knows the place.

Although I enjoy the place, many tourists don't seem to. It really isn't what most expect.

A similar adventure, much closer in, might be Baan Silapin, "The Artist's House". This is a row of old shop house, lining a klong. Wandering around, you will definitely get a feel for waterfront living, many years ago.

Do a Google search to see if it might interest you.

This is the view at the end of soi 3. You would need to follow the guy in the pic, down the alley, then over the bridge, to the shop houses.
