I really need some advice please regarding my Thailand trip early next year - and yes PhuketRichard we are go this time!
Okay, we're breaking our Auckland - Johannesburg flight up both ways with stopovers in Thailand. Our Bangkok sightseeing will be broken up due to X'Mas and New Year needing to be spent on different continents!
First stopover arrives/departs:
Arrive BKK 27 DEC 9:30PM
Depart BKK 30 DEC 0:15AM
We need two nights accommodation first time. What would be a good itinery for two full days?
Second stopover arrives:
Arrive BKK 07 FEB 5:45AM
We'll fill in the rest of the Bangkok 'must see' attractions at this point. How many more full days will we need. Three? Therefore four nights accommodation? What would be a good intinery here?
- Accommodation wise, I usually spend upwards of USD200 on hotels per night. We need to do Thailand on a tight, tight budget. We'd be looking at spending approx. only 2,500-3,000 Baht per night. I do not want grungy 3* hotels, so perhaps some people know of excellent, cheap, semi-luxury boutique thai-style guest houses that have great locations. I saw the post by Thaiexpat on this, but I just got so confused about what places will offer ease with getting to sights/restaurants.
- We want to experience the real culture of Bangkok. We're both young however nightlife is not essential.
- I love temples and Asian architecture so does that influence what I should see?
Following the second Bangkok stay, we want to head up to Chiang Mai and then down to Phuket or Koh Samui - which ever we can get nice and cheap boutique guest house accommodation at. I'm guessing 5 nights in Chiang Mai to see villages and go elephant riding, shopping etc. is enough. Beaches I'd say 5-7 nights? We're coming from Africa so may be a little sunned out!
Please help me - travel agents in NZ don't seem to think boutique guest houses in Thailand exist! Unless they cost a bajillion dollars...
