There are many tailors on Sukhumvit Road, near Sois 11 through 13. I can't vouch for them all, but when I was living in BKK I had some wonderful dresses made by President Tailors. It took about 3-4 days with 2 fittings plus pickup. I still wear them several years later. They also have a website: http://www.presidenttailors.com which has their contact info.

As for off the rack, if you're a western woman it may be difficult to find anything anywhere except the most expensive department stores (try Central, for example) but even at home I had a couple fittings for my wedding dress -- so, I figure why not get one custom made?

Hi Annie

I am getting married in Thailand in August. I am having my dress made there - after some deliberation. I will certainly post feedback on here then about my experiences. I've set out below what I've found out so far:

Initially, I contacted a dressmaker called Cotton House who said they could make one in a week to 10 days. Subsequently, a lovely lady in Thailand that I have been in contact with spoke to Cotton House directly and they were not sure they could do the dress in that time after all, once they realised what was involved. She has now found a few places that specialise in wedding dresses that have said they could make the dress so we are going to go around them all on my first day and I will choose which one I prefer. I do have a particular dress that I want copied. I have about a 12 day period for them to make the dress but this could extend to about 19 if necessary.

Previously, I have had cocktail dresses made in Thailand. It would be certainly possible to have a simple dress made in 4 days or so I think. If you wanted beading or embroidery, then I think you would need longer.

I also emailed Nancy Chandler (www.nancychandler.net) to ask where to get a dress made and her daughter asked some friends who recommended a road called Thonglor, which is Sukhumvit Soi 55. There are lots of bridal shops on this road. You can buy dresses off the peg but you need to be small as they are not designed for western builds.

My thai friend has told me that in the wedding dress specialist shops, you can choose to get your dress in three ways: 1) Rent a dress that has already been made; 2) Have a dress made to your design but don't buy it, returning it after the wedding and it will be rented out to others after; 3) have dress made to your design and keep it. I am going for the third option.

I am also planning to take a non-wedding dress as a back up in case it all goes to pot!

That's great - do you know if they can deliver the dress to you - as I don't want to spend any longer than 5 days in bangkok?

Hello, this is for BELLA BUTTERFLY! After reading your response I note that you have had some cocktail dresses made in Bangkok. I am going to Bangkok in a couple of weeks time and would also like some made, can you recommend a good place - I have read the Cotton House is good. Any advice would be really appreciated thank you!. Emma

I suppose it is possible - but you would want to have a final fitting I think really for your wedding dress.

We've structured our trip so that we are in Bangkok for a few days at the beginning then go north for 6 days and then back again to Bangkok. Could you structure your time in this way?

When I am out there, I could also find out from you when I am going around the dressmakers if any of them could do it in the 5 days you have.

Manwell - a friend recommended Cotton House to me. In the past I have used the dressmakers in the Shangri La, on three separate occasions and had 5 dresses made in total, and been v pleased with their work. They can post items to you if you don't have time for the final fitting but I would recommend one if you can squeeze it in.

Thanks Bella Butterfly, what sort of price did you pay for a dress and a wrap?
