Thailand in June

We are thinking of visiting Thailand thisJune, we know it is the rainy season, but how bad does it get? are there certain areas that are better than others?

We visited Phuket last June and had great weather. We had a short burst of rain on a few days but as quick as it came it passed and then the sun would shine again. We did get some bad weather on a tour to phang nah bay but it was late in the afternoon so really didn't upset our lovely day to much. We loved our time there we have actually booked to go again this June. Hope that helps have fun planning!!

You may be lucky or unlucky.

You may wish to have your tarot cards read before you decide to go.

Or you may just not care, decide to go anyway and enjoy that mixture of fun and chaos which is Bangkok.

I have visited three times in June and it was hit and miss.

When it rains you think that the world is coming to an end and if you are a Roman Catholic, as I am, you reach for the bible or call that number for "Dial a confession" only to find out the phone line may be dead.

Then again it can be all over in a couple of hours and the sun comes out and you would never believe that only few minutes before you thought life as we know it seemed to be coming to an end.

Don't bother about umbrellas, come and sing in the rain and be happy.

Remember the seasons here are Hot, Very Hot and Hot with Rain!!

Stay dry but not when you are in a bar.

I was just there this past June, rained only two times in six days, only for a few hours early in the morning, dry by 10:00 am. Heavy rain more into September, October. June is only just the start of rainy season.

The east side tends to have better weather in June. I have been in Phuket in June previously and witnessed torrents of rain, but it didn't tend to last too long. However, the seas do tend to be rough at that time of year and this can stop you doing any sea based tours to other islands etc.

How is Bangkok in June/July? Can't figure out which it's more like? Phuket or Koh samui perhaps? Could make a big difference?

Bangkok just feels hot all the time as there are no sea breezes to help with the humidity, we were there last June and it wasn't too bad, bearable- we didn't get much rain whilst we were there, but it is supposed to be rainy season at that time so it really depends on how unlucky you are.

You'll get some rain in June, how much and for how long varies every year and what happened last June has little or no bearing on what the weather might be like this June. Its not clear if you're discussing Bangkok (the forum you posted in) or Thailand generally. In Bangkok a bit of rain just doesn't matter as there are just too many places to get away from it and stay dry. On a beach somewhere it is more of a concern, but an average June (when there is one) is not going to be so wet as to make life unpleasant.

We visited Bangkok in June and found that it was warm during the day and every evening at around 5pm it threw it down. Thankfully we'd done our homework before we went and took a thin plastic cape with us just in case and have to say we used in every evening. It rained so heavy the one night that we took off our shoes and carried them back to the hotel. I have never seen rain pour down so fast. It was inches deep in around 20 minutes. This lasted for up to an hour and then it stopped. It was always at the same time of day so we knew what to expect.

We then moved south to Hua Hin and had showers there at different times during the day but it was still warm.

Don't let it ruin your plans though. Just take the necessary outdoor wear.
