Markets and fakes, weekdays!

We are heading to Bangkok in one week for our honeymoon. I heard the best shopping in markets is on the weekends. But we are leaving on a satruday morning. Which is a good market to go to to buy great designer fakes and all around cool stuff?

THANKS!!!

Chatachak might be the weekend market that you will not be able to get to.

On Sukhumvit, in particular from about Soi 5 to the Tops market near Asok, you will find lots of street vendors selling knockoffs mostly shirts and some fake handbags.

Also, near Patpong in the afternoon and evening there are lots of vendors - perhaps one of them has what you want. Around sunset you will find lots of vendors in the GoGo bar area. Lots of fake watches and handbags, etc.

On New Phetchaburi Road, between the First Hotel and the Baiyoke Tower Hotel are lots of shops and vendors selling all sorts of clothing. In particular the soi (street) leading from the Baiyoke Tower next to Krung Thong Plaza is full of clothing vendors. The Krung Thong Plaza, and that particular area is sort of a mini garment center. Many of the street vendors get their clothing there. On the net: www.krungthong-plaza.com.

Dont be too worried about missing the weekend market you wouldnt have got 'great designer fakes' their as the copies they have are junk.

You can get most of what you are after at MBK shopping centre, for bags (LV, dior, chanel etc) they have a lot on sale on the basement level, we also found a great store I cant remember which level now (2 or 3?) but it is a 'luggage shop' opposite a Watsons Chemist. When you go in mention what you are looking for and they will open up the suitcases and inside are really good (Korean) copies of handbags. At MBK you can also get copy designer shoes on the basement level too, as well as polos & tee shirts, jeans etc (diesel, billabong, rip curl, fcuk etc etc)At the Siam Square end (end opposite sky train station) there is also another little mall attached called 'Bonaza' which also has lots of jeans, bags etc, worth a look and you can then wander out to the shops on the street.

Pratunam market (part on the street) also has some good handbags, watches etc look for the stalls with the catalogues then choose what you are after, same with watches best are usually hidden under the counter. Pat Pong is very expensive (same products as elsewhere) but if you wander down the Silom Road to the market stalls the prices are a lot better.

There are many great shopping opportunites in Bangkok, just remember to bargain hard and purchase more than 1 product to get a better deal. Good Luck. Catherine
