What hotel for Honeymoon??

We are staying in Bangkok for 2 nights on our way home after being at the Sala Samui for our honeymoon and we are wondering what hotel to choose.we will be going to MBK for one day and would prefer something pretty close to that (20 minutes). We have been looking at the Peninsula but are wondering what other 5 star hotels there are.not fussed on how much.

thanks heaps

There are heaps of 5 Stars in Bangkok, The Peninsula gets rave reviews, it is on the other side of the river so you need to get a boat back and forth to the hotel from the Skytrain stop.

Directly opposite the Peninsula is the Shangri La (which we are trying next,) looks good and more convenient to the skytrain.

The famous old Oriental is a little further up the river from the Shang.

The Four Seasons and the Grand Hyatt are further up the line and also convenient to the skytrain.

We have stayed a few times at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit which we really like, in the Sukhumvit Road district which is good for shopping and bars/restaurants, also right on the skytrain.

You might have gathered the skytrain is important, definitely the easiest way to get around.

By the way good choice of Sala Samui, great spot for a romantic beach holiday.....

Cheers

Have to say that I didn't really like the Shangri-La. Too big.

Back to the OP - depends what kind of hotel you want (ie what you are prepared to pay). If you want an all-out five star experience, then the Peninsula and Oriental are hard to go past especially with the strength of the Aussie peso.

The Peninsula/Oriental/Shang are all on the river near the end of the Skytrain. This isn't a hard trip to MBK, but it might be with lots of shopping. (All the hotels run boat shuttles to the Skytrain station).

MBK has a hotel attached, the Pathumwan Princess, which is good for the price - but it isn't five star. (Has a good day spa though).

The other tranche of hotels to consider is anything on Sukhumvit - the skytrain runs along the road, and you can get a taxi back with you shopping. Grand Hyatt, Sheraton, Four Seasons, JW Marriot etc ae all along here somewhere. These are all very nice but possibly a touch buness focussed - they feel like international hotels.

And a couple slightly off the beaten track, but beautiful: Sukhothai and Banyan Tree. A bit of a taxi ride, but not bad as long as you don't do it every hour.

Stayed at the Shangrila 3 weeks ago, got to say its one of the best hotels ive stayed in.

Easy to get on Skytrain to mbk.

Check out the shops in the Siam centre , top designer stores !
