Big question space. Depends on what you want to spend. If you are interested in shopping , one suggestion would be Pathumwan Princess which joins on to the MBK shopping centre...you can get just about anything there and fair prices if you bargain. Some people will recommend a hotel on the river , many of which are expensive. Bangkok has an excellent skytrain system and underground train stations...very efficient and will whiz you to any area you want to visit. Yes the city can be overwhelming but fascinating as well . Lots of good food at many different price levels and certainly a lively night life!

Suggest you read a guidebook and decide depending on your own preferences.

Everyone likes Bangkok for a different reason.

Siam probably ticks all those boxes. Try Novotel Siam/Pathumwan Princess.
