Jet airways to Kathmandu via Delhi

Hi

Flying to Kathmandu with change of plane in Delhi with Jet Airways from London Heathrow.

There appears to be differing answers on the web re having to collect luggage in Delhi and re checking it in.

Has anyone done this flight recently and can confirm if luggage gets booked in all the way through to Kathmandu. ?

Also are UK pounds easily changed in Nepal, and are notes or travellers cheques best ?

Thanks Rongpuk! That is pretty much what I was thinking, but I figured it was worth asking, as I will have lots of big heavy bags (plus dog in crate!) to deal with. I'll just make sure to get some extra rupees for tips and hire an airport guy to help me out.

Till now I've never left my luggage there, even if the Airport has been restructured in 2010, and now it seems a new one. I always prefer to bring it with me even if it's heavy ;-)

just to close out the conversation: I took my bags with me, but it ended up being not too much of a problem because the guy who brought my dog out in the baggage claim area helped me with the second cart (for the dog) all the way to the taxi, and absolutely refused to take a tip!

The airline provides hotels if there's a delay or overbooking. If not, you can check here about sleeping in the airport newdelhiairport.in/sleeping-at-airport.aspx

My parents are flying from Chicago to Delhi on Air India and Delhi to Kathmandu on Jet Airways and it looks like they have two ticket numbers. My concern is about the bag transfer. Will three hours transit time be enough to claim the bags and check in again ? Do they need to go through the immigration to claim their bags ? Jet air contact in Kathmandu and one in Delhi contradict each other.

Hi there,

Unfortunately indeed they need to go through Immigration, which means they need an Indian transit visa. Costing an enormous level of red tape and maybe USD 30-40.

If they would not get the visa in time there is a 'mercy escape': sometimes, no guarantee at all, in situations like this airport staff is willing to accompany them (visa-less) through Immigration to pick up the bags and escort them to check-in for the next round.

The 3 hours itself is sufficient as both flights would be from Delhi international terminal, but AI has a reputation of delays so never say never...

All the best,
