Hi Alka

Sometimes you have to try a number of machines to get one that works in Kathmandu. Otherwise, the quickest way to get some cash to him would probably be to transfer it via the Western Union.

Agree with Eric.

Lesson learned: DON'T depend on ATM withdrawals!

He has to find an ATM that matches his card. Carrying a Canadian debit card with the Cirrus brand on it left many machines that didn't work, but at least one did. If he can't find one than wiring money, or an online transfer if you're equipped for that is your best option.

Look for Standard Chartered atm's. I had no problem withdrawing from them. There's one in the centre of Thamel and others around the city.

Sad to hear the problem with International ATM card, please note in most of the ATM's machine is the problem and we also face same sort of difficulties, so the best option is to visit Standard Chartered Bank or Himalayan Ban which are premier Banks of Nepal and use their ATM'S and if it does not work then you can talk with the concern card department directly and they will be able to help.

Most Indian cards wont work in Nepal. Check the back side of your card. It should say "not valid for payments in foreign exchange in Nepal and Bhutan"
