Today flights went to Lukla and Pokhara, but only the one. The Greenline went to Pokhara today and word is its going to run bus tomorrow. Better option is to turn up at bus station early morning over coming days of uncertainty and most likely a bus will be available. Airlines and buses are working on rotation system and the larger bus lines appear to be managing the situation better. Flights are still on for Lukla and Pokhara tomorrow. The rest is unknown, its really day to day. Our own GL tickets are booked for 12th (thursday) so it remains to be seen which way the situation will swing, but I feel confident it will be fine. Then there is a Jomsom flight booked for 4 of us on 14th. So we will see. Heaps of traffic on road tonight, bikes included. Gas still remains the biggest problem for locals, with a friend paying over 8,000 rupees today for a cylinder...double the normal price. Just acquiring it took a lot of work. Talking to this one, walking there, being sent somewhere else until finally........apart from all this people are still wandering around Thamel, not in droves, but busy enough to know you are definitely not the only westerner in town. Preparations are still being made by families for Tihar but the gas situation is putting a real strain on them. How to prepare the special food for loved ones returning home etc. with one rice cooker and electricity sporadic. I am seeing people carrying small bundles of firewood home and in typical Nepali fashion, tonight a small fire on the foot path outside a home, with a pot simmering on top.
