Train travel during Diwali

So, we arrive in India on the 23rd and the plan is to travel for a month by train, this is proving more difficult than first thought due to Diwali.

I was led to believe that as long as you were flexible you could normally get a ticket within a couple of days using the foreign tourist quota, looking at availability, this doesn't seem to be the case. Do more tickets become available under this quota nearer the time like Takal tickets?

The original plan was as follows.

Delhi

Agra

Varanasi

Jaipur

Jaisalmer

Jodhpur

Udaipur

Mumbai

Cochin

Chennai

First the tourist quota is not available in all the trains. it is available only in few trains and few class.

this might be useful to you.

and this is a tourist season, there might be a demand in general.

Most of the trains will be fulled during that period. I will suggest you take the help of some local agent so that you can get tickets in Tatkal Quota
