Problems with IRCTC account and non-Indian mobile OTP

Has anyone managed to receive a One Time Password via a non-Indian mobile in the last few weeks when trying to register with IRCTC (the Indian Railways website)?

I've have tried to open several new accounts with different UK mobiles, email addresses and ISPs.

Each time the IRCTC says "OTP sent" but it never arrives.

IRCTC Customer Care simply replies to emails saying that they're looking at the problem. Tried asking them to go back to the old workaround system and email me a ISD mobile OTP. Nothing happens.

Is this just a UK problem or are all non-Indian mobiles affected?

My boyfriend and I had the same problem. We've been trying to activate our accounts for over a week but we did not receive any OTPs (using Polish mobile numbers). We tried to email the IRCTC customer care but they stopped answering. We tried to call the customer support but when we finally managed to connect with an english speaking person we were instructed to send another email.

Let me emphasise that our experience with IRCTC was by far the worst single ticket booking experience in our lives. We never thought such a bad service is even possible.

After a week of stress and seeing our tickets disappear, we became desperate and started to look for other ways. We run into Raj and his train tickets booking business on TripAdvisor. He booked our tickets yesterday (we are going to India in autumn) for a small fee and it literally took 5 minutes to get our tickets in PDF. You can search for "Train ticket please" on Facebook. At first we were uncertain about doing it this way (sending money to a stranger found on the Internet doesn't sound like a very responsible thing to do) but it worked and looks legit. We plan to use Raj's services again to buy other tickets.

I got the OTP and registered my Uk mobile a few weeks ago. But then it wouldn't accept the OTP for my e-mail...argh. After several e-mails I just gave up. I have now booked train journeys with "12go asia". Much easier just click and pay and they email you your tickets

We've also just booked tickets with Raj from Train Tickets Please, since we faced exactly the same problem with the IRCTC. He advised us well, accepts payment through Paypal (which felt a bit safer to us) and we received our tickets within a day. Of course, we haven't traveled using the tickets yet, but I'm convinced we are in good hands.

Hi, we've had the same problem, we've been in touch with IRCTC who just insist that the problem is on our end.

We solved it with the help of Raj at Train Ticket Please - someone else on here recommended him to us, he booked our tickets really quickly for a small fee and was also super helpful with planning our itinerary.

He's on TripAdvisor as Raj_trainticket

Hope that helps!

IRCTC helpline is useless. Raj from Train Tickets Please helped me buy tickets for my visit to India this coming August.

Further to my original post above, I have tried requesting a resend of the OTP every day or two and today, I RECEIVED MY MOBILE OTP within ten seconds of pressing the resend button! It has taken just under two weeks for the first account to be activated.

So, advice has to be to keep requesting RESEND and it will probably be actioned eventually.

Facing similar problem in UAE. Haven't received OTP since last 2-3 days. I have tried several times with 2 different accounts. Railway IT people should seriously looked into the problem.
