Tarvel In Mali

I am planning a trip to Mali in March with Saga tours. I was juyst wondering for those that have travelled Mali what the safety factor is. I know this topic gets a lot of play on these formums so please escuse this repeat question. I am not planning on traveling northern Mali beyond Tim and Gao and I understand the risks of overland travel there.

For those that have travelled there, how was your feeling of safety while there? Would you recommend travel there, etc.

Thanks

I just got back a few days ago and loved it in Mali, the economist's most recent issue talked about terrorism & mentioned the Tuaregs, I was in Mali for 10 days, with only 1 day in Tim, but never felt unsafe (and was by myself single female) entire time, I loved it and in fact in Bamako (the capital) people are selling Obamako ( obama /bamako) pins & in Tim the kids were wearing shirts w/US flags & usher t-shirts & etc.

can't tell you what it's like north of Tim & Gao, I saw bamako, djenne, mopti, segou, dogon etc.

go, you'll love it (just make sure you get there before it 's too hot)
