Will be travelling in late December from Chipata to Mozambique. Any advice for overnight camping . Will want to spend two nights or so at the lake. What are the conditions of the roads. Thanks

Where in Mozambique? The routes are very different depending on your final destination (e.g., Pemba vs. Beira vs. Maputo).

If you head through the Mangochi border then you can stop and camp at Nanchengwa Lodge www.explore-malawi.com/Nanchengwa_Lodge or http://www.namizimu.com/

Have a great trip!

Hi, you can also stop and camp at Nkopola Leisure Centre, where there are camping and fixed tent facilities, with the oportunity to visit Nkopola Lodge if you want to splash out on a meal. These are nearer to Mangochi than Nanchengwa, (which is iself well worth the effort of travelling the extra distance if you have the time!). Namizimu is on the eastern side of the Shire river, off the road to the border.

I agree with Kate, Nanchengwa is breath taking and would definitely be my choice!

Nanchengwa is small, family run, with excellent home cooked food, The sort of place where you arrive as a guest, and leave as a friend, well worth the extra distance from Mangochi.

Hi Kate and Ivan

Appreciate the recommendation. How is the weather in Malawi this time of the year and the road conditions? Do you have a recommendation for camping on the shores of Malawi. We will be heading south to Mozambique from Chipata.

Nanchengwa is right on the shores as is Nkopola. Weather is beginning of the rains- at the lake it usually is heavy showers overnight. Please be warned very very low on fuel here- especially outside Blantyre and Lilongwe. Please read here for more! explore-malawi.com/travel-info/fuel-issues-i…

Make sure you top up and take jerry cans if possible or have people along the way who have a stock!

Hi,

We are thinking about a trip to Malawi (via Dar-es-Salaam and Tanzam train to Mbeya) and from there by the Malawi coast and further down to Quelimane. Is it worth visiting this part of Mozambique and at what time of the year? How about September-October? An how to get back from Quelimane to Dar? By road through Pemba?

Thank you for any useful info and advice
