Own thing in Port

Going on a cruise and usually we like to be independent when we are ashore. The cruise goes to Banjul. Can any tell me details such as -

Is it easy to get from the ship into the town ?

Is it far to walk or are there local taxis etc ?

What should we not miss in this port?

Any other helpful suggestions would be much appreciated (such as nearest local market etc to the port)

I was recently in port in both Dakar and Banjul. Banjul is much easier to navigate. It is about a 20 minute walk to the large local market (a portion of the market is crafts). You will pass through the local shopping district on the way.

There's not a lot to see really, just the African experience. And dont forget the way back! Take water, and carry your own tissues!

The National Museum is pretty good; the Arch 22 Monument is not very interesting. If you have time and can arrange it, a tour of the central Hospital previously called RVTH will show you how most of the rest of the world has to suffer, if you dont know.

All these are within a short walk of each other. It's a commercial port and government HQ, not a tourist destination really.
