Souvenir warning

Over the past week all tourists returning to Maun airport after staying at Camps in the Delta have been searched. Officials are looking for anything such as hides and skins or ivory as well as prohibited substances. They are even confiscating items such as ostrich shells purchased at lodge curio shops.

One tourist returning from Savute Safari Camp was arrested because he had two hippo teeth in his possession. He had found them whilst out on safari. He was bought before Maun Magistrates, and luckily was discharged.

I myself have often picked up snake skins, porcupine quills, warthog tusks and even a small piece of elephant tusk which I found whilst in the bush, but no more if this is the result.
