Hi Arlene,

Wow, you may not have much choice ... most camps pretty well book about a year in advance. I spent a month, mostly in Zimbabwe & Botswana, on safari. My favorite camp was in Zimbabwe -- Makalolo. The staff were amazing, the accomodations very comfy, the public area outstanding & the game drives spectacular. Also loved Kwetsani in the Okavango -- listening to the lions at night & sitting on our deck looking out over spectacular grassy plains, watching giraffes walk by. My least favorite was Mombo, in Moremi. Mombo was probably the most expensive, has an incredible reputation, was very comfortable w/ amazing accomodations ... just not very friendly & inviting, & the view from our deck was of bramble bushes. Moremi is absolutely incredible (I'd go back to Moremi in a hearbeat, just wouldn't stay at Mombo). All of the preserves were stunning, the animals incredible. You need a good agent. I used Ultimate Africa in the Seattle area -- never met them, did it all on-line. They have a great reputation, very trustworthy, honest -- great website -- they visit the camps frequently, it's a husband/wife team & she's from Zimbabwe.

Good luck, hope this helps, let me know how you do!

It may indeed be to late to have much of a choice for your Botswana camps. Here's an agent I would recommend who handles the group of Wilderness Safari camps - the ones I would suggest as the best overall.

Nicky Glover (she used to be a consultant at Wilderness in their home office many years ago, married an American and is now a very established, personalised agent in the USA)

Arlene, you can still get some camps, we are booking our honeymoon in Botswana at the moment, but availability is a bit limited. Having said that we ended up getting almost exactly what we wanted.

We're using Sun Safaris out of South Africa (Brett), very responsive. We also checked with a couple other tour companies and they were able to find available lodges as well. Hoping to finalize our trip this week.

I can't give any advice since I haven't been yet, but from what we researched, it seems there are more good camps than bad...

Good luck.

As others have noted, at this point availability may determine where you end up. I'd get in touch with an agent who specialises in Africa ASAP to see what they can do. It's not impossible, but it will certainly be a challenge!
