Serengeti safari from Nairobi

Hi

We are planning a honeymoon trip to Tanzania, and were wondering if it's possible to get a safari starting from Nairobi, to Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and then finish in Arusha (from where we will fly to Zanzibar)

I've had a look around and it's quite overwhelming with so many companies! Any recommendations would be great. Also if anyone has any idea how long all this might take that would also be really helpful. We would like to fit in as much as possible but don't want to overdo it!

Thanks.

Ok, well the simple answer is yes it is possible. As to whether its a good idea is another matter.

This depends on lots of things eg, your timescale (for the whole trip and how long you intend to spend at each place), your budget, how you are intendng to get from one place to another (fly or drive - be aware there are long distances between these places and you have to cross the border at some point), time of year of travel etc plus many other things. You probably need to give us more information.

Generally on this forum people will recommend you stick to one country unless you have a lot of time and a large budget. As this is the Tanzania forum most will suggest you just stick to Tanzania. You could include Tarangire and Lake Manyara if you wanted and have time then fly to Zanzibar. This will be less complicated, cheaper and less rushed so all in all probably more enjoyable.

Anyway give us a bit more information.

When are you traveling? Month?

As the 'migration' is constantly on the move, it may not be necessary to visit both the Mara and Serengeti.

Otherwise, if driving between the Mara and Serengeti where there is NO direct crossing between the two, it'll take about 8-10/hrs via the Isebania border. If flying between the two, it'll be shorter by half, but more expensive.

If only wishing to visit the Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro... it's doable but flying would be your best option, budget dependent.

Like the others. With time and/or money is is very possible. but getting from Maasai mara into Tanzania can be convoluted as you cannot just drive over the grass into the Serengeti. You will expend a day doing this bit alone.

If the Maasai mara is high up on your wish list then do it but do realise the time involved and another visa AND a Yellow Fever Certificate.

Unless you are one of the fortunate few I would guess funds and holiday time off are limited. So your trip will be for 14 day. 21?

With 14 days I agree with shep. Stick to one country. Kenya or Tanzania. You select Zanzibar for some beach time so sheer convenience then dictates your Safari is best taken in Tanzania.

A simple but high end comfortable trip is easily arranged through one of the Agents on NoExps new list on top right Top Ten Qs.

You can get some really nice places at a modest budget but if you want to splurge there are some luxury ones too. (NB. The animals will look just the same wherever you sleep.)

Come back with dates and we will see what we can do to point you in the right direction.

Whatever else. Congratulations for the wedding!

It is possible to land in Nairobi and depending on flight arrival times overnight and then drive to the Maasai Mara -park fees are a bit higher than Tanzania at $ 80 per person however. Then spend 2 nights here or 3 and drive to Lake Victoria, overnight, do a few activities on and around the lake then enter the Serengeti and on to the other parks as normal. You can also fly from the Maasai Mara into the Serengeti. Budget and time could be your restraints.

If you also wish to visit Zanzibar I would probably stick to one country.
