If you want to go to Serengeti you wil have to take a bus to Arusha which is Tzs 30,000 one way.Its about 8-9 hour driving so you will need one night accommodation in Arusha. From Arusha you will have to find a company which have a group that you can join to make it cheaper. The best price you can get is $ 150 per person per day camping safari.

If you need more information please let me know.

Without a travel agency you will have a difficult time going there. While there are buses bound for Mwanza from Arusha which will go through the Serengeti, they don't stop anywhere. The travel agent (there they will be called safari operators) will provide you with the vehicle, a driver/guide, meals, park fees, fuel, etc. to get you to the Serengeti from Arusha (which will be about a one day drive). The Serengeti is larger than some countries, so you will need the safari operator to get you there and so that you will be able to do some gameviewing. There are other parks on the way to the Serengeti, like Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater which have a lot of animals.
