8 Days in Tanzania

I'm attending a course in DAR from Oct 7-13. From there I would like to go to Zanzibar for a day trip, then spend the next 7 days in safari somewhere. Hoping to leave DAR from Oct 20 back to the states. Can you anyone recommend an iternerary? I've done Kruger and Sun city safari

Go to the South!!! It's real Africa there and you are nearly alone in the parks...

We visited Ruaha an Mikumi (a day trip by car from Dar) and went to the Udzwunga Mountains. Go and visit Ininga Stone Age site: something very special and make a walking trip in the Morogoro Mountains: You will never forget this days...

You can get to Zanzibar by ferry or a light. Go to the ferry docks and you can easily catch a ferry to Stone Town. Take a taxi to the Dar airport for a flight, cost is about $40 for a ferry, $90 for a flight.

There are two major circuits for a safari, the Northern Circuit and the Southern Circuit (There's also a western but you don't have enough time for that). To get to the Northern Circuit you will need to either fly or take a bus to Arusha. There will be literally millions of animals there. In October Tarangire will have it's migration of elephants, zebra, buffalo, and predators. Ngorongoro Crater will have animals at every turn of your head, and the Great Migration of almost 2 million animals are moving into the Serengeti and will most probably be in the Nothern and Central Serengeti. So if you want to see millions of animals, easily seen, than go to Arusha and get a safari from there to Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti. You can arrange for a safari by contact acting some safari operators in advance. Go to the Tanzania forum and look at the list of Top Questions about Tanzania on the right side of that web page, look at the 4th link down and there will be a list of some good safari operators, they can also do safaris of the Southern Circuit if you wish.

You can easily go to the Southern Circuit of Selous, Mikumi, and Ruaha out of Dar. Mikumi can be gotten to by bus if you wish. You can go to Iringa by bus if you continue from Mikumi on to Iringa on the bus. At Mikumi village and Iringa you can have a safari arranged from either the Genesis Motel at Mikumi village or from VETA in Mikumi Village. There will be a couple of safari companies in Iringa where you can arrange for a safari.

Most safaris in Tanzania are private safaris, meaning that you are the only person in the vehicle, some will group people together also which would be less expensive. Safaris are all inclusive with the accommodations, meals, driver/guide, vehicle, fuel, and park fees included in the fees.
