7/8 nights luxury safari itinerary - June

Hello - I know there are a lot of post on luxury safaris and itineraries for Tanzania, but I wanted to re-post a few, specific questions... for my honeymoon.

1) What is the most sensible route through Tanzania for 7/8 nights that will minimize the amount of in- country travel?

-We can arrive in either Nairobi or Dar Es Salaam (we are flying through Dubai).

-It seems very inconvenient to get to Arusha from DAR... lots of little flights, basically takes 6 hours total. Any recommendations on how to minimize the travel?

-What order would you organize the safari so that we don't have to keep flying? Ideally we'd get to one place and drive to the others. Gremeti-Serengeti-Ngorongoro crater, etc etc

2) Any suggestions for Luxury safari camps? We like the CC/AndBeyond Africa Camps and Singita... but they are $1,000 per person per night. Any suggestions in the $500-$750 per person range?

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!

First the flights.

As you say come into Dar (or Zanzibar?) and fly Arusha. Then either drive west, stopping at the places to be decided, and then fly back the whole way to DAr, via Arusha OR

Fly from arusha 8am as far west as yoo are going and then drive back. Flights from ARK-DAR will normally leave around 14.00.

Now we need to know when your trip is to be so that we can suggest suitable area and pick camps.

If arriving from DBX, then the Emirates flight arrives NBO at 2:15pm, sufficient time to make connecting flight (1/hr) to JRO (Kilimanjaro) Tannzania. Here you will be met for transfer to Arusha and overnight. Commencing safari next morning.

If arriving at DAR (not sure whether this is a continuation of the flight to NBO or a separate flight), but if arrives early enough in afternoon, there's a 6pm flight (1/hr) to Arusha or JRO. Again you'll be met for transfer to Arusha for o/n.

If flight into DAR is too late, then you'll have to o/n here and take early flight next morning to Arusha to commence safari.

If not stopping in Dubai on way to Africa, a reminder, the flight from East Coast USA is 12/hrs straight on, so be prepared. But the Emirates planes are nice with soft colors (no blue anywhere, thank goodness), with competent crew, pretty decent meals... plenty of entertainment. The ongoing flight from DBX to NBO or DAR is only 5 to 5.5/hrs, so not bad at all.

For safari, you have time to cover:

Day 1 - Arv. - o/n Arusha

Day 2 - Drive to Tarangire - o/n

Day 3 - Tarangire - o/n

Day 4 - Drive to Ngorongoro; afternoon crater tour - o/n

Day 5 - Drive to Western Serengeti - o/n

Day 6 & 7 - Western Serengeti - o//n

Day 8 - Flight to Arusha; flight to DAR or NBO; homebound via DBX.

Ideal for honeymoon and romantic properties

At Tarangire, is Treetops; at Ngorongoro if not the Serena or Sopa Lodges, consider Lemala Camp;

in Western Serengeti there is Mbalageti or Kirawira.

There's also the Nomad camp in Serengeti, as well as &Beyond Serengeti under Canvas that might fit with your budget.

These are lux properties, but prices are nowhere near $1+K night/person. Have your agent price for you.

I hesitate to recomend any companies as they are all different and most do a good job. I should visit the Tatotz Website and pick a election that appeal. Gt quotes from five or six of them and compare like with like.

Or read "Bradt guide to Tanzania" by Phillip Briggs who makes listings of the better companies.

I have used both Hoopoe and Swala to complete satisfaction with Hoopoe being the slightly more upmarket concern.

but there are other names that appear regularly on here as doing a good job such as Basecamp, Roys and Access2Tanzania.

Good luck.

The rates you see on websites are "rack" rates - the highest. Working thru an outfitter, most of whom get contract rates (lower) are passed onto clients. So $900 can be about 25%+/- less.

Those accomm shown are just suggestions.
