Knysna/ Garden Route

Hi, I would just like to know if anyone has stayed in the Knysna Protea Wilds Eco lodge and what their experiences were. Also if anyone can recommend somewhere to stay between Cape town and Knysna that is affordable and nice, B&B or Self Catering.

Hi Candice,

You don't really need to do a stop. It's about 5 hours from Cape Town to Knysna. But you could spend 1 night in Swellendam (about half way) or Mossel Bay (about 1,5 hours to Knysna). There are numerous accommodation options in both places and I'm sure you will find something suitable. Have a look at southafrica-stay.com if you are looking for accommodation.

You may also want to consider staying in Hermanus which is on the coast about an hour outside of Cape Town. Accommodation options can be found on www.hermanus.co.za - if you are in the country during the whale season, then that will be a bonus.

We drove from Knysna to Cape Town this Easter - its a beautiful drive, amazing scenery. We stopped off for lunch in Montagu (www.south-africa-tours.com/montagu.html) which was a really lovely little town that could be a nice stop? It was more than half way between Knysna and Cape Town, I think.

The trip is easily doable in a day though, and there are lots of stretches where there isn't much to do (lots to see through the car windows though!!), so you wouldn't necessarily want to take too much of your trip on that route.
