Garden Route accomodation

Off to S.A in two weeks and as part of the trip will be flying into Port Elizabeth and then driving to Capetown, stopping along the way. Can anyone recommend anywhere to stay in P.E thats not too pricey but cosy for one night? Then along the way we intend to stop at maybe Plett or Knysna ... which is best? Finally!!! We'd like a night at a wine farm with great food, beautiful surroundings and accomodation, any ideas? THANKS!

There are a number of hotels on the beachfront in P.E that should be able to accommodate you without pre-booking. I would suggest that you wait until you get here. It is not anywhere near peak season. I would certainly opt for Knysna or Wilderness ahead of Plett as they are more central. Once again, book as you go.

We liked St Francis so much that we bought a apartment there.

It is only 1 hr from PE and 2 hrs the other way to knysna

Knysna better than Plett. More info on

Vergelegen, Boschendal,Lanzerac all beautiful wine farms but pricey accommodation but reasonable food..
