What time to dine in South Africa?

Hi All, I'm in the process of making dinner reservations for our trip to South Africa and am wondering what "dinner hours" generally are? Is it like the states, where you generally eat around 7 or 8? Or like Europe, where people tend to eat later? Thanks!

You can generally please yourself. Families with children are quite often expected to eat early (6-7pm) other than that it is usually up to you.

We were surprised at how busy restaurants were by 6.30, and not just families. It seems they eat earlier than in the UK or US.

It very much depends where you are in South Africa, I think the same principal would apply most places.

Cities, dining time - to you suit your self, countryside and towns - better to check what time the kitchen closes.

On average though mostly between 7-9 would be a good guide line...bon appetit, and enjoy your visit to our beautiful country.

Reservations for between 7 and 8 are the norm. If this is during the week and you have guests that need to travel through traffic from work to home and then to dinner, 8 is better.
