There's three ports in the Tanger area. Ferries from Tanger City only go to Tarifa in Spain. Ferries from Tanger Med (30km east of Tanger) and Ceuta go to Algeciras.
When you get to the port find a ticket office and make sure you get a ticket for the next Jetfoil ferry.
If you are in Tangier town you have two options.
A. Ferry from the town port to Tarifa, free bus from outside Tarifa ferry terminal to Algeciras town (takes about 1/2 an hour, boarding with ferry ticket stub so don't throw it away) laid on by the ferry company FRS or Comarit. No reservations required for ferry. Go to the ferry terminal in Tangier town port and look for the ferry company offices on the right hand side. Purchase your ticket there.
B. Ferry from Tangier Med port to Algeciras - allow between 40 minutes and an hour from Tangier town by bus or taxi. Go into ferry terminal and look for FRS, Balearia or Comarit fast ferry booths. Purchase ticket. No reservation required. Don't buy a ticket for one of the bigger boats, as these take longer for the crossing.
Personally, I would go for Option A.Edited: 10:31 pm, June 28, 2011
