Breaking Up Train Travel / Tangier - Marrakech

We're taking the train from Tangier to Marrakech in early January, and want to break up the trip in either Rabat or Casa. Any recommendations as we would only be spending one night (in either city) and then on to Marrakech?

Or is it wise to just take the overnight train and tough it out??? Thanks in advance.

sleep it out and get to marrakech the next morning. Casabalnca is like Chicago-- skyscapers, traffic and lots of pollution

I agree, Casa is not a good place to stop...but Rabat is beautiful. The Oudaya Kasbah is lovely, as is the seaside walk around the Tour Hassan. There are plentiful decent and moderately priced hotels near the train station (the Balima, the Royal, La Pietri) - all of which aer within walking distance of the medina.
