Dar Sara- what kind of neighborhood is it in?

Hi-I was considering staying at Dar Sara but would like to know the neighborhood it is in. It is described as "in the Medina" but I undertsnad that there are still some areas that are more desirable than others. Is this located on a busy , noisy street? Is it safe? Also anyone who can comment on the quality of the accommodation and service- I would also appreciate it!

Thank you.

We stayed at Dar Sara November 05, the breakfast was excellent as was an evening meal we had there which needs to be booked in advance, staff very attentive at meal times but not always around and we found it not always possible to have drinks other than at meal times.

Make sure you get a key from them because we were not given one and had to get next door neighbour to help us to gain access which was not easy due to language problem !!

It is about 5 minutes walk [with your luggage] from Bab Doukkala which is the nearest point that a taxi can get you to Dar Sara, phone the Riad when taxi drops you off and they will come to taxi point to escort you to Riad. The walk [each turn gets progressivly narrower] passes over some rather smelly drains but once you go through the rather shabby looking outer door to Dar Sara it is like stepping into another world which is quiet, clean and comfortable.

The hammam is self service which until you understand the process can be somewhat confusing.

Although billed as being close to the medina we found it took about 15 - 20 minutes walk to Jemaa El Fna [the main square].

If it is of any help we have a basic map showing Dar Sara and its sister Riads which I would be pleased to email to you if you would like to send me your email address.

I've stayed at Dar Sara or Dar Sara Sghira three times and like it very much. It's simple but very pleasant, and a very good value. It is in the medina on a quiet street, about five minutes from where you can get a taxi. It's very close to Dar Al Pacha, the former house of Thami Glaoui, which is now a museum I think. I felt that it was very safe.
