Where to stay with a toddler?

We are planning a trip to Marrakech end of this month with our two year old. We want to stay in a Riad with a couple of bedrooms, a kitchen and a good living space - somewhere to hang out if we need to. I've checked the 'family friendly' hotel page but we don't want just one room to sleep in. I'm baffled by the amount of holiday rentals on offer - especially the dramatic price differences - and would appreciate specific recommendations. We don't want to spend more than £80 a night - and really need it to be quiet. Ideally we'd be walking distance from places.

Thank you!

You'll find "child friendly" Riads by typing that into the search box but many Riads aren't suitable for small ones due to pools, sharp edges, steep stairs and hard tiled surfaces everywhere. Many won't accept children under a certain age unless it is a whole house booking as sounds carry in a Riad due to the open courtyards.

Good luck as families with small children can have a great time in Morocco due to local people making a fuss of your kids.

Good advice given above. Concentrate your search on the smaller riads (perhaps with only a few guest rooms) and write to previous recent reviewers for their opinions. Children are cherished in Morocco and a stay in a traditional riad which welcomes kids is not to be missed. However there are hazards for toddlers as pointed out, roof terraces and courtyard plunge pools included, so a high degree of parental supervision is required as staff cannot be guaranteed to be available at every moment with a watchful eye. (This of course is also true of hotels with bedroom balconies and unguarded swimming pools.) Otherwise you will be more than welcomed by the people of Marrakech as long as you do not mind your kid being smothered in kisses every time you go out!
