Booze in Marrakech

The forums on this are closed and out of date. The supermarkets in Marrakech do not sell booze and there are very few bars except in the tourist areas. Your best bet are the bars in Gueliz where you will also find L'Atelier du Vin that sells decent wine, spirits an a few beers - not cheap though

What nonsense whatman! All supermarkets with the exception of Aswak as Salaam sell alcohol. There are in addition several licenced grocers (alimentations). There are many bars in Marrakech, which after all is a vast tourist area. Pity that your first post is so completely wrong.

Here is the situation with wine and spirits. There are places all over Marrakech that sell wine, beer and spirits, in the medina, in Gueliz, in the supermarkets. There are also some excellent local Moroccan wines.

All of these drinks are relatively expensive compared to Europe because of taxes, so as the government is not seen to encourage drinking...but it is ubiquitous and tourists are not the only people who drink.

It is a pity that such nonsense gets posted on the boards.

The situation throughout most Moroccan cities is the same. Acima and Marjan as well as Carrefor all have extensive wine, beer and spirits selections. The prices range from very reasonable to expensive. Most outlets are closed a few days before and after religious holidays although some will open for foreign passport holders as mentioned. Otherwise cheaper wine is available from individuals who supply locals. This wine is not often of good quality.

Correction - the supermarkets in Gueliz do sell booze Eg Acema. The same supermarket outside Gueliz (Acema Massira) sells no booze, go figure!
