dyes rubbing off leather goods; advice?

One of my favorite parts of my trip to Fes was buying leather goods in a shop overlooking the tannery. However, the dye is rubbing off a couple of items, so check carefully before you buy. Also, does anyone know what I can do to preserve my items (and protect the things they touch)?

I've heard locals mention a process whereby you use vinegar to set the dye so that it doesn't run or rub off, but no idea as to the application...with a little bit of time and use the dyed leather stops rubbing off though.

they have treatments for that , try a good tack store they will reccommend what to use to fix the dye.

I use a version of saddle soap on mine.
