Coming to Fes ...

How safe is it for a (mature) woman coming alone to Fes in December?? Is the souk and going around on one's own ok?? I am a seasoned traveller and have lived and worked abroad, btw. Have ALWAYS wanted to visit!!! Thanks!!

Have ALWAYS wanted to visit?

Then, just go.

You're experienced. And won't be the first woman going alone to Morocco.

If you are mature woman, then the uncomfortable experience most likely to happen could be targeted as a "foreign passport carrier". Just don't fall in love with young man who's suddenly sweet to you LOL.

But have fun!! It's an amazing country!

I've travelled twice, independent, alone and safe.

Thank you!!! I'm already happily hitched so don't need a young hubbie, haha! I've been to Morocco before-a long time ago to Essaouria, Marrakech and the Atlas but that was with friends. I will go!!!

Thank you. Would the souk/medina be ok for me to wander in alone or is it better to hire a guide?? I'm often not good with guides and prefer to go it alone.

I wasn't travelling alone but I found people in Fes to be much calmer and friendlier than Marrakech. The men in marrakech can be a pain and as some one mentioned above plenty of them become very friendly once they know I live in the west and then the compliments and proposals start coming but I didn't experience anything of that sort in Fes at all which was great.
