clothing update as of 2014!

going in september to morocco

definitely do NOT want to offend anyone

we are both in our 70's---so it isnt a question of wearing tiny little short shorts or gym shorts--never!

i just do not like to travel in a way that i stand out as so obviously a tourist (which of course i am)

would rather blend in a little bit

can my husband wear shorts--that is--the kind that come to around the knee?? or does he need to wear long pants?

we were in bangkok many many years ago---no one told us--and he wore shorts (to the knee)---people were absolutely staring at him and pointing

and can i wear the same kind of shorts?

do my knees need to be covered?

would i be better off with capris??

plan to wear polo shirts which are not revealing at all

any suggestions? or has the world changed in morocco, too?

in so many places now--anything goes!!! not sure that is a good thing

Would you care to pick your way through here:

tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g293734-i9196-k3658… ?

In general, in order to avoid unwanted attention and to avoid causing offence, you should probably dress more conservatively than your husband; you should both dress more conservatively when in rural areas (especially in villages) than you might in urban areas. Increasingly, it seems that in Marrakech anything goes, although I would still urge sensitivity towards traditional values.

Shorts to the knees would be fine for both of you in Marrakech but please wear long trousers/skirts in the villages.

thank you for your prompt response

i do not even own a skirt---ha ha

do you count rabat and fez as a city where we could wear the shorts?

we are also going to several villages so will take your advice on that

i want to emphasize that these are not little short shorts!!!

I've not been to Rabat since 1986 and have only been to Fes once since 1979 so I'm not sure that I'm best placed to answer you on that one. Nonetheless, I would have thought you would be perfectly fine to wear long shorts in both of those cities!
