Colours of Morocco Intrepid Tour - Any feedback?

I'm thinking of booking a 15 day Colours of Morocco Tour with Intrepid for my Boyfriend and I in late July. Has anyone any experience of this? I've never been on such a holiday and do not know what to expect.

Hi,

I am thinking of booking this trip in December with my sons ages 17 and 20. How was your trip with Intrepid?

The trip was great!!!!

Do have an open mind, this is not a luxury trip. Hot water can be rare.

Free time is a scarce commodity, you are going to get up early, see many things and go to bed tired.

Challenge your guide to take you places other than the normal resturaunts,

don't be scared to depart the group every now and then and make your own path. I got the feeling that our guide was taking us to middle of the road priced resturaunts to be respectful to the whole group. We struck out with another couple and had some of the best meals of the trip.

Save shopping til Marrakech, there are chances to buy in the tour sponsered shops, but more fun and if you bargin hard I think that better deals can be had in Marrakech.

Overall we had a great group and I loved the experience. If you are willing to accept the more rustic lifestyle, go for it.

I'd do it again in a minute.

Thank you very much! We are going on the December/January trip.

Your advice on asking to go to different from normal places is good. I'll certainly come with a list of places I'd like to see.

I have two questions: Did you have trouble finding a place to get money at the airport? and Did you arrange to be picked up at the airport, or just grab a cab?

Thanks,

Laurie

This is just a quick note on the Colours of Morocco trip by Intrepid. We traveled over the December break and were a small group of 11. Here's an example of our daily schedule.

Here are the actual times for what we did on December 30th:

8.00AM

Supposed to leave

8.26AM

Actual departure time

8.38AM

Picture break (and cigarette break)

8.43AM

Back in van

8.49AM

At charity to look around and buy things to help them out

9.17AM

Back in van

9.19AM

At tourist store

10.04AM

Left tourist store

[Both the charity and the store were in the local city within 20 minutes of where we had stayed on the day the group was told to wait around.]

10.49AM

Stop for panoramic view and cigarettes

10.57AM

Left panoramic view

11.33AM

Stopped for coffee and cigarettes

12.01PM

Left coffee shop

1.13PM

Stopped for lunch

2.04PM

Left lunch stop

2.07PM

Stopped for shopping at a local shop

2.27PM

Back in van

2.35PM

Arrived at movie studio [which had a restaurant]

3.39PM

Left movie studio

4.07PM

Arrived at hotel

4.30PM

Scheduled time for meeting to discuss how to walk to Ait benhaddou kasbah before dinner

[Note: the Kasbah was visible. The directions: walk out the back door, turn right to corner, and walk down the street and cross the river on the stones. If you go through the official entrance you need to pay an entrance fee (about 1US dollar), but there is a way to walk around and not pay the entrance fee.]

4.37PM

Meeting actually started

4.45PM

(approximate) Meeting ended, time to go visit kasbah of Ait-Ben-Haddou

5.32PM

(approximate) Time of sunset.

We had approximately 47 minutes of daylight in a UNESCO world heritage site, compared to 64 minutes at a movie study, 64 minutes for "lost time" (starting late, sorting out the hotel), 92 minutes for breaks and lunch, and 93 minutes minutes for shopping.

It this is what you are looking for, have a wonderful time with Intrepid.

(BTW: the people in Morocco are wonderful! We especially enjoyed the free time we had in Essouria. Lovely town that I would like to go back and visit.)

Hi Truth

I am doing a 10 day tour with Intrepid as an add on from Spain & Portugal.

The daily schedule does not sound overwhelming to say the least.

What's with all the cigarette breaks, was that for the travellers, driver, tour guide?

Did you enjoy?

thanks

Hello again Truth

Few more questions for Colours of Morocco is thist now called Best of Morocco?

A 15 day original trip?

I would be very interested to know what the desert camp and the mountain gite accommodation is like?

And any more information I would be most grateful.

kind regards

cigarette breaks for guide. A couple of us contacted Intrepid about this but got nowhere.

Colours of Morocco is a trip they've run for years. It starts or ends in Casablanca and Marrakech.

The desert camp was nice. We rode a camel in (about 1/2 hour) hung around for a while playing with cats and chatting then had dinner. Some people climbed the dunes in the dark (It was December and very cold) and then got up early the next day and had breakfast back where we had left our luggage. The tents could easily accomodate 6 people but most just had 2 or people slept under the stars. I was a wimp and didn't.

5(out of 11) of us skipped the mountain hut. We opted to hire a car at our own expense and go to Essouria a day early. We could no longer tolerate the cold. I understand it is ok and the food was good. No showers.
