I just started looking at hotels and I'm really shocked at the prices. Please help guide me in the right direction. It's a first visit to Hawaii and we'll be 8 nights in the Big Island, and 6 nights on Maui. I've booked a hotel in BI on points, so that was a big savings. My points balance doesn't cover Maui too.
My highest priority is a hotel with a wonderful beach. I know Hawaii is full of wonderful beaches but I'd like to be able to sit in a hotel lounger and use the facilities there. So, for example, I ruled out the Marriott in Wailea because I read that there's not really beach there, just rocks. And I think for just the two of us and a first visit, we'd be better off at a hotel than a condo--no interest in cooking and don't really need to spread out since we're just two people. But I could be swayed on this one.
My second highest priority is a fairly nice hotel (like a Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt or Westin, something like that). Doesn't have to be Fairmont or Ritz-Carlton (though if someone else were paying. . . :-D). And if I'm going to be someplace that gorgeous, I'd want an ocean view.
My third priority I thought was going to be location: I liked the idea of Wailea or nearby but the price issue has made me more flexible about that.
So does such a thing exist for less than $500 a night? We're going the first two weeks in November just as a point of reference. I'd really thought we could do lodging for more like $350 or $400 a night and was biting the bullet at that but I can't find anything even close to that. Does it exist? Which of my priorities should I loosen up on?
