Hi Yolie912: I've stayed at the Royal Lahaina and I think where you stay on the property and your expectations determine how you feel about the stay. First, the beach, the northern portion of Ka'anapali Beach (actually called Kahekili) is a beautiful beach ... very large, not as crowded as the southern portion of Ka'anapali (less hotels), can be used by those who just want to sunbathe, snorkel, swim, or just splash near the shore. .............................................................................. The Royal Lahaina's grounds are very nice, with numerous pools (I think there are three), tennis courts, a couple of restaurants (somewhat expensive, but then again, what isn't on Maui, except for the beach access?), and lots of trees, bushes, palms, flowers to give you a real "feeling" of being in paradise. .............................................................................. The accommodations are split into three areas: 1) Royal Hale; 2) Tower; and 3) bungalow rooms. We stayed in an ocean-front bungalow room, so it was, of course, gorgeous.... since we were on the 1st floor, we did see some little critters (Hawaii has these tiny ants which find very creative ways to get inside - they're no big deal, just buy a can of Raid at the Safeway). But, the view, the room, the service and having beach access right outside the room was unparalleled. ............................................................................... Avoid the Royal Hale at all costs!!!! It is worn down, right next to the Luau grounds, so you do get to see and hear the show every night, but then again ..... you get to see and hear the show every night, over and over and over!! After the third or fourth night, I guess you could apply for a job -- you'll get to know the routines so well!!!!! .................................................................................... The tower is a mixed bag - much more to the liking of those who prefer standard hotel rooms. The higher up, the better, and the rooms facing north will also have earshot of the luau, but also ocean views. ................................................................. The bungalows are spread out all over the property. There's the oceanfronts, but there are also, for a lesser price, those which are out on the lawn. We talked up some of the folks staying in them, and they seemed to like them for being quiet and not having so many folks walking by the rooms (like we had since were on the main pathway towards the ocean), and the walk to the ocean across the lawn for them didn't seem to matter. ................................................................................... The luau at the Royal Lahaina is okay, especially if you've never been to one.... it's a good introduction to what a luau is like. Buffet of all the standards, family-style dining at long tables making new friends of the people with whom you're seated, and the show is Polynesian. ..................................................................................... This past time in Maui, we stayed right next door to the Royal Lahaina (at the Ka'anapali Villas - but only for the condo aspect), otherwise we would have stayed at the Royal Lahaina again.
