Lanai diver dead in boating accident

Sad news from Lana'i.

There are only 3,200 people that live on Lana'i, so I'm sure he was well known by most that live on the island.

Aloha,

Sad to hear.

Best wishes to his wife, family and freinds.

A young man also lost his life in Maunalua Bay a year and a half ago.

Tragic

That is so very sad. The close knit, small town family feeling on Lana`i makes this a tragedy for all the residents.

If he had his diving flags out, then a boat should not be going so fast that it is unable to make corrections in time.

Everyone is assuming that the boat was speeding when he hit the diver, no report has been put out about the conditions of the accident, it is only speculation at this point. I heard from one of the boaters out there that it happened at idel speed inside the boat harbor, either way it is tragic but lets get the whole story before we start hanging people.

I agree completely mauiboater, and I was not accusing the boat of going at high speads. I do not know much about boating rules, but if a diving flag was out, I assume a boat should not be anywhere near it. And since it occured in the harbor, it is very unlikely that the boat was going fast.

The wife was the witness on how fast the boat was goimg. If you live on Lanai, you would know how reckless these tour boats operate. Something has to be done about this. It's never the diver fault when you have your dive flags up and next to shore.
