Waterfalls

Hi Everyone - What would be a good half day waterfall sight seeing itinerary on the island, mainly the ones with easy access for a dip in the cold water? We're staying on the north shore.

Many are not dipable (if thats a word). You see from far away. If you really want to take a dip in one, take the kayak trip to Secret Falls. Its out of the Wailua River area.

I love Secret Falls too, but if you don't want to Kayak, I can also suggest Ho'Opi falls, in Kapaa (Kapahi). It's a very easy and flat walk. It has two falls, an upper and a lower, swimming would be above the lower falls, which is the one furthest from the ocean. Some youngsters swim, below the lower falls, but it's a dive in, and a bit of a climb out. The upper falls is the larger of the two, and you can literally stand on the cliffs and watch the falls.

Both falls take about 2 hours to explore and enjoy, and they are very accessible.

Thank you. How about the falls on the north shore? Do you recommend anything there?

None that I would consider easy... While we have a ton of falls here, most are not readily available and you have to helicopter to most to see, which kind of defeats the purpose. One of the most popular is 4 miles into the Kalalau 11 mile trailhead.

It's 2 miles to the amazing Hanakapai'ai beach which you can't swim on, and then another 2 to the falls area. This is NOT an easy hike and should not be done during or after a heavy rain.

Don't worry though, you will be able see a large number of falls at a distance, especially after a good rain shower that blows off quickly.
