Weather end of Jan. beg. of Feb.

Any general knowledge of weather end of January and beginning of February? Too much rain? Should we plan Maui and The Big Island Instead?

In Jan/Feb you'll want to be on the south shore for better weather. In general, the south/west sides of any island will be warmer and drier.. That said, what are you looking for? Winter is whale season, and while you can see them off Kaua`i, Maui is the hot-spot.

try top questions #1 and #2.

It's a crap shoot. Typically Kauai has more rain in winter, but there are times when the southern islands take the whacking and we are clear.

Let's face it, no matter where you travel, there's no way to accurately predict the weather. Seems like the traditional weather patterns aren't reliable any more. Hurricanes used to be something that reeked havoc in the Southeast, butthe last two years the Northeast has gotten walloped (Irene and Sandy). Temperatures are currently way above normal in much of the country. In northern CA they're under a deluge of rain. When you're planning an outdoor-oriented vacation you simply pay your money and take your chances.

Ahhhh, jan and feb is winter time in the hawaiian islands, since the islands are located north of the equator just like the USA mainland.

As to Kauai, the South shore would be the best bet for that time of year with less average rain fall than the north shore. It can be quite a difference, so just be aware of that.

Agree with Barb, you pay your money and you take your chances. But, you will have more chance for sunshine in Poipu.

More rain? Yes most likely! Great airfare from SFO and OAK? Oh yes! Alaska shows $287 round trip.
