Poipu/Lihue area with a toddler

We spent Christmas 2003 on Kauai (at the Marriott in Lihue) and loved it. Now we're going back for our daughter's first birthday, and will be staying at the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club in Poipu. Other than playing on the sand, swimming in the pool, etc., can anyone suggest any activities that would be fun for a one-year-old (and her parents and grandma?) We're thinking about doing the tour of the sugar plantation (Gaylord's I think is the name) - we thought she'd like the carriage ride with the Clydesdales. Any reviews/opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A one-year-old is happy doing whatever it is his/her parents are doing. She's one. Relax and have fun.

She might enjoy the horsies, but the rest of the tour will probably be a bore. You should take her to Lydgate park on the east shore. It has two walled off areas for swimming and snorkeling. One part is only about 2 feet deep with essentially no waves, the other bigger area is 6-8 feet deep with some waves and a bunch of fish looking for handouts. There's usually a gaggle of kids there playing and swimming with lots of protective parents keeping watch. We took our daughter there for her 1 year birthday & she loved it. Bathing suits & swim diapers seem to be optional.....
