La Ceiba real estate.

Can anyone who has been to La Ceiba tell me anything about real estate prices? I am interested in purchasing a small house, preferably new and would like to know how prices run.

Prices are all over the board depending on style of house, construction, location and neighborhood. I have seen some new subdivision housing advertised with lot in the $35,000 US range but they are totally lacking in character.

You may consider perusing the internet for ideas prior to making an exploratory trip(s).

You will find some properties listed at the following sites (I have no idea what is current):

http://www.honduras-realestate.com/ - Located in La Ceiba (few listings but good general info);

http://www.caribe.hn/euceda/index.htm - Located in La Ceiba;

http://www.viviun.com/Real_Estate/Honduras/ ;

http://www.golaceibarealestate.com/ - Located in La Ceiba;

http://www.hondurasrealestate.com/ - Has a list of most La Ceiba real estate agents (no web sites);

escapeartist.com/International_Real_Estate/H… - Has a number of properties for sale scattered around Honduras.

There is no substitute for several buying trips to get the lay of the land. Have fun!

I have been to La Ceiba and am returning June 18th. I am from Canada I have researched purchasing property in Honduras. Even though the Honduran government is open to investment, titles may be difficult. I have searched for houses and property and I have seen prices from $10,000 US to over 1 million. If anyone else has advice I would be interested in knowing as well. I suggest you surf the internet www.hondurasrealestate.com. Hope this helps

My husband and I moved just outside La Ceiba almost 2 years ago. Prices were unbelieveably low when we started looking, each year they are getting higher as more and more folks from the States are relocating. Some of the new small lot/houses mentioned in the other reply are now selling for $50,000...which is still very resonable compared to other places.

I hope you have made your way down here and found your piece of paradise. Oh there is a book about a couple that moved to this area of Honduras ... "Gringos in Paradise (something, something)." Watch the title since theres another one almost the same title but about mexico.

When I surf some of the real estate sites I am seeing some nice buys for $100,000 -150,000 . You could also build. Best wishes.

Are U still watching thread????...

Porvenir Girl is right, benn down twice already, got scooped on the one I liked, however I found sellers just throw prices out there.

I've been advised to start my bids at at least half the asking price,...the worst they'll do is say no!

Good Luck, ...watch out for low land that gets very wet & boggy in rainy season.

I live overseas and would like to buy a property. Does anyone have a lawyer they highly recommend?

There is an excellent lawyer in La Ceiba by the name of Melanie Wetzel. You can contact her through her web site at http://www.honduranlaw.com/

Notwithstanding what you may hear to the contrary, you absolutely do need a competent local attorney when purchasing property in Honduras.

Thanks, I will look her up. On average, how long does it take for the entire process?
