duty free?

Just wondering, is there still a duty free store in the airport, or should we purchase ahead of time?

also, does anyone know if liquor is inexpensive like on other caribbean islands? Wonder if we can bring 2 bottles back into the USA?

1. Re: duty free?

There was no duty free at the Roatan airport last week when we flew home - and we were at the airport for almost 3 hours waiting around so I do not think it was a matter of hours of operation not lining up...there were only one food type stand and two small gift shops. The duty free shoppe was covered over with paper.

We flew Sunwing and lots of ppl were buying duty free on the plane home.

No duty free in the airport. Liquor is inexpensive. Stop at Plaza Mar or Eldons on your way from the airport to wherever you're staying and load up. Check with US regulations but typically you can take a bottle back if it's in checked luggage.

Have fun

the duty free limit on alcohol (not sure this also applies to wine, but why would you double-transport wine?) is one liter. Accordingly many bottlers make one liter sizes for duty free shops. So you can import 2 bottles duty free if there are two of you.
