Travelling from Guatemala City to Copan

I've been reading about the Copan ruins just the other side of the Guatemalan border in Honduras.

Can anyone recommend a bus company serving the route to the border as I don't really have the budget to take a tour bus.

Is crossing the border a hassle just for a day trip?

Tris -

I am sure there are others, but check out Hedman Alas bus line at http://www.hedmanalas.com/index.htm and Monarcas Shuttle Bus Service at http://www.angelfire.com/mt/monarcastravel/ and http://www.guatemala.ph/.

Monarcas is the less expensive of the two. Each facilitate the border crossing.

Have fun in Copan!

Crossing the border is no big deal. It took us about 10-15 minutes going into Honduras and maybe 5 minutes from Honduras to Guate. And I would recommend staying the night in Copan - it's too much of a drive to do it all in one day. There are some nice hotels in Copan that are really cheap, but I don't recommend buying too many souvenirs there. Guate is WAY cheaper and has pretty much the same stuff. Copan souvenirs seemed to be really expensive to me. I would also recommend spending the money on a tour guide at the ruins. I went with my school and they were too cheap to hire us a guide and we just wandered around looking at all the stones without them having any meaning.
