Vamos Car Rental

We just returned from a week-long trip to Costa Rica. We rented a 4 x 4 from Vamos in San Jose. I would not hesitate to rent from them again. Their rate was by far the lowest rate we were able to find on a 4 x 4 for the week and their service was great. We were met promptly at the airport when we arrived and were shuttled to the rental office. There was no one else there and the paperwork went quickly. Once back in San Jose for our return, we were again alone in the rental office and the paperwork was promptly processed and we were then shuttled to the airport. Our 4 x 4 was not brand new but it was certainly more than functional for our needs for the week. All the agents we dealt with at Vamos were friendly and efficient and I would recommend them highly.

We also rented from Vamos and had a great experience. They were very accommodating and had a special rate on GPS on their facebook page. They brought the car to our hotel the morning after we arrived (late flight). We had a very early flight when leaving and left the car at our hotel. They picked it up and charged us the agreed upon price which was the best I could find. I like that they encourage using your credit card for cdw. We used the united visa which had primary insurance (no deductible) and also no foreign transaction fees.

I also rented from Vamos, I would recommend them as well. I made the reservation through Tiziana and she was very helpful. She explain all the details of the rental and price matched their competitors, great customer service.

Vamos picked us up at the San Jose airport and took us to their office. It was a very busy Saturday but Alex at the office did great job getting us out and on our way so we could arrive in Nosara before dark. Alex explain how to get to Nosara the quckest way.

We rented a Montero Sport 4x4 even though it was not new it ran good. The A/C work well, 4X4 worked well. It had plenty of power to climb some of the steep dirt roads in the mountains. We drove from Nosara to way south to Paviones in the poring rain going to all the surf breaks & towns along the way, no problems.

When we return the car it was pretty dirty for all the dirt roads and rain but Alex didn't blink an eye, his first concern was how was our vacation and how did the car performed. Alex also made reservation at a hotel close to airport for our early flight out in the morning. Again they were very busy on our return day but they still took good care of us. All of the charges were correct no surprises. They took us to our hotel, great customer service!!

I rented from Vamos in Liberia in August and can't say enough good things about them. Made the reservation via online chat, and the process was quick and easy. Every detail was explained well and there were no surprises later on. My flight was 2 hours late, but they were waiting at the airport, and drove me to their office to complete the paperwork. On day 4, the air conditioner stopped working. I made a phone call and, later that day, they delivered a replacement car to where I was staying. Returning the car was also quick and easy. I would like to single out Anibal and Maria for their great custoner service and attitude.

Oct 2013, flawless experience with Vamos car rental, renting for 7 days to drive from San Jose to the Pacic Coast at Playa Dewl Cocos - about 4 hours one way on major roads. Not only was Vamos the least expensive I could find by a large amount, their extras were free or also much cheaper than other car rentals - for example, free emergency phone which you could add unlimited Costa Rica calls to for $7/day, free Costa Rica GPS with English option that worked great and made this my first trip to C.R. much better and smoother. The agent we worked with help input my 2 destinations in the GPS to show me how it worked, but that was really not needed - it was a nice Garmin very similar to the model I use at home in the U.S. - theirs was actually a little better than mine.

I made my reservation on-line several weeks ahead and recommend you do the same. Vamos was also very responsive by email to any and all questions I had and I emailed them 3 times with fast clear responses each time.

In San Jose less than a mile from the airport, as they stated - ah agent was there to pick us up and drive us to their office and on our return they were sensitive to any urgency and providing a fast trip back to the airport - but we were early so there was no rush.

The cost in U.S. dollars was exactly as agreed upon.

The rental did take a little while, partly because I was a little nervous about driving there and had some special questions and requests. Vamos made me feel more comfortable and was able to answer all my questions and get me off to a good start.

It turned out that driving there was much easier than I expected, Vamos helped make it easier, and other than a slow tire leak caused by a faulty valve stem that we had replaced while at Playas Del Coco renting and driving was no problem and a big addition to my C.R. trip. Do heed the adive though - read up about C.R. roads and signs and drive very defensively - Ticos are fairly aggressive drivers.

Love Vamos. Using them a second time in December. They take the CR discount card on top of already low rates. Loaning us an ice chest at no cost. Plus the phone. Last time we rented from them they brought the car to us in Puerto Caldara for $60 . We had just departed off the Windstar cruise there. It was so easy. All the staff at Vamos has been wonderful. Can't wait until our next trip.

I bet the "special rate on GPS" is due to the growth of free GPS projects like Cenrut!

9. Re: Vamos Car Rental

I'm wondering if you get the costa rica discount card, does the 20% discount apply to the basic car rental only or does it apply to the total amount (which includes mandatory insurance)?

The reason I'm asking is that we would need to rent a car for 2 weeks so it makes a big difference.

Basic only. You have to pay for the insurance with any car rental agency. Vamos gives you a cell phone, a roof rack, or ice chest. Lots of extras ! We are renting for 15 days and got a great price.
