Avoid 1-costaricalink or Discovery Travel World (Also DTW)

I am a hotel owner here in Costa Rica. PLEASE stay away from 1-costaricalink or their travel agency Discovery Travel World. These people are expert thieves!! I cannot believe they are still able to operate in Costa Rica and have a website which is still up and running. They send booking to hotels and then do not pay them. As the amounts are not that high nobody really wants to waste time taking them to court and that is why they can keep going and get away with it. Also, it is impossible to reach them on the phone and they do not reply to emails. It is difficult to find a phone number on their website and if you try to call they never answer. If you look on the internet, it is possible to finds lots of info on them. PLEASE do not work with them. There is another website called 1costaricalink which is good and honest. By the way, the owners of 1-costaricalink are Angela y Jörn Malek. You may not want to work with them either...

I hope this helps both hotel owners and people coming to Costa Rica. Enjoy and stay safe!

I found myself in the same situation with this group. In Feb., 2010 we stayed at one of their hotels, Hotel Play Espadilla, in Manuel Antonio. We booked over the internet. The charges were submitted to our bank two days after we made arrangements. One week after we returned from our vacation they charged us the same amount again. We notified them of trheir mistake via e-mail and after several correspondences they admitted they had overcharged us and would reimburse us in 15 days. Three weeks later and still no reimbusement we had to contest the charges via our bank and our bank finally recovered our overcharge. There was never an appology. They are very difficult to contact via phone. Also, don't know if there is a connection but someone from Costa Rica used our credit card info and made charges to the tune of $1500 on it. Hopefully the bank can recover that, too. It is such a shame because everything else was great in Costa Rica. Pls...someone do something to this company!!!

I honestly don't understand how these people stay open. After living here for so long, I understand that the system in general here leaves a lot to be desired, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to shut down operations like this. I don't get it.

Is there any way we can get Trip Advisor staff to pin this permanently? So many people ripped off - it should be a permanent warning.
