First time to CR

Planning to go summer 2005 (2 adults + 2 children) . Would like inputs from anyone that has used the following tours:1. Caravan Tours 10 day CR2. Adventure Life 11 day Adventure Pacifica3. Thompson Familiy Vacations 9 day Multi-Sport4. International Expeditions 10 day CRTrying to narrow it down to which are good tour operators and skilled at what they offer.

Are you definitely considering using a tour operator? Because CR is definitely possible to do on your own. However, if you want a tour - I'd suggest a CR based tour companies that offer what you want in your budget.

Costa Rica Expeditions is a very reliable company with good prices and good guides. They offer one-day and multi-day tours to most parts of costa rica. http://www.costaricaexpeditions.com/

If you want adventure and are willing to spend a little more try Serendipity - http://www.costarica-adventure.com/. Many of my friends have used Serendipity for rafting trips.

Horizontes is excellent nature tour company with excellent guides. http://www.horizontes.com/

For small reasonably priced general nature/birding tours, try Cotinga Tours http://www.cotingatours.com/ or Aventours Costa Rica http://www.aventourscostarica.com/. Both are small specialized tour companies with excellent guides...although Continga is US and CR based I think.

My best friends took the Caravan Tour to Costa Rica. It costs $995 and includes all meals and activities for 10 Days. They travel a lot and said this is the best, and cheapest, trip they ever took. I plan to go very soon with Caravan. I have travelled with them to Copper Canyon Mexico, and they were excellent, I think much better than companies costing even twice as much. I think it is because they sell so much, and get better prices and have more experience. Anyway, for what it is worth. Good Luck to You.

Yes. I have taken Caravan Tours, and they were great. The route was good, the hotels had us in all the best rooms, all meals included. Anyway, You will have a really good time with them. The Caravan Tour to costa rica is 10 days and is only $995. And, worth every penny. My best friend also took Caravan Tours to Costa Rica, they travel a lot and said it was the best tour they ever took. Good Luck

I wonder the same thing about Caravan. I guess you'd have to call and ask them how many they book per outing. Seems I read a post from patrickM in another forum that said his Caravan tour to Copper Canyon had a very full bus. That sounds like it could be uncomfortable travelling for ten days (with children) in such a manner. Caravan also doesn't have any email links to contact them - so that kind of makes me question their accesability. Would love to get more inputs regarding Caravan - the price is GREAT - but I've learned over time that cheapest isn't always the best deal and you might be money ahead to pay more and get more.

Have yoy looked at Tauk Bridges? They will run about 8100 for 4 people plus air. that seems pretty expensive for 1 week. I have spoken to richard at wildlands. He lived in coasta rica for several years. I am going to call him this week and ask about size of the groups. From what i remember, it seems much more personnel. that tour ran about 1500-1700 per person plus air. it's great having someone to compare plans and research with.

When I link to http://www.tauckbridges.com/costarica.php I only see one CR tour they offer - an 8 day trip. Do you have another Tauck website? I am wanting to go longer then 8 days because you will basically lose the 1st and last day as travel days in which case the tour part is just 6 days. Thus I am thinking if I find a 10 or 11 day tour that allots 8 or 9 days to actually see the country. The Wildland tours aren't really doing it for me with their itinerary. Caravan had a nice assortment of activities as do Adventure Life & International Expeditions. So I'm trying to figure out what to do and unfortunately you can't find ratings for these various companies anywhere on the web.
